Marina: Rene Moore
dies at 78;
was active community leader
Rene Moore, a Villa
Marina resident and active community leader, died early Wednesday morning,
February 19th. She was 78.
Interment was Sunday,
February 23rd, at Hillside Memorial Park.
Moore was active in the Villa Marina
Council, an association of owners of the 685 Villa Marina units,
and in the Westchester-LAX/Marina del Rey Chamber of Commerce.
Recently, she was involved
in efforts of Save Our Marina Hospital to keep the Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital open.
She was certified by
the Los Angeles Fire Department as a Community Emergency Response
Team member.
She moved to the
local area from Pittsburgh, following her marriage in 1976
to Jim Moore, a computer researcher in linguistics.
In 1977, Rene Moore
began The Calculating Lady, a consulting, tutoring, publishing and Web site
creation and management business.
In September 1983, she
was invited to lecture at Tainjin University in China, one of the world's oldest universities.
Born in Pittsburgh, she served 15 years as a bookkeeper
for Dormont Appliance Center and managed her father's apartments.
She also worked with the Pittsburgh Credit Bureau and W.T.
Grant, and was office manager of Schaffer Inc, a wholesale provider
of small appliances.
State Sen. Debra Bowen
honored Moore for her "exceptional volunteer spirit and devotion
to making a difference in her community."
In addition to her husband,
she is survived by her son Jeff.
