Jan. 23, 2004Tenet Gets Subpoenas for Doctors' Records
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP)--Tenet Healthcare Corp. said Friday it received copies of subpoenas for documents relating to financial arrangements between two doctors and three Tenet hospitals in El Paso, Texas.
The nation's second-largest hospital operator said the subpoenas for physicians' documents were issued by the Office of the Inspector General in the Department of Health and Human Services.
The Santa Barbara, Calif.-based company also expects a request for company documents in connection with the probe, and said it plans to cooperate with federal authorities.
Tenet has been engulfed by a succession of government investigations since announcing late in 2002 that much of its profit had been generated by special Medicare payments triggered by the company's aggressive pricing policies.
