SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Dow Jones/AP) -- Tenet Healthcare Corp. Monday said three
directors will be stepping down from its board.
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Santa Barbara-based
Tenet said director Robert C. Nakasone resigned March 22, and directors Lawrence
Biondi and Sanford Cloud Jr. won't stand for re-election at the company's annual
stockholders' meeting May 6.
The nation's second-largest hospital company said the size of its board will
be reduced to eight with the three departures.
Nakasone, who notified the company of his resignation March 4, was elected to
the board last May. Biondi and Cloud have been directors since 1998.
The filing provided no reason for the departures.
Tenet has been the subject of lawsuits and government investigations for a year
and a half. The company agreed to pay $54 million to settle government allegations
that two doctors at its hospital in Redding, Calif., performed unnecessary heart
surgeries. Related malpractice suits are pending.
