The Calculating Lady combines a unique set of talents. Jim has a heavy-duty (Ph.D.) computer science background and Rene (Ph.T.) comes from the real estate/office management and bookkeeping world.
Jim's academic and research background is in the arcane area of Artificial Intelligence. During his tenure with IBM, he was involved in numerous research projects, educational missions, internal and external consulting and finally knowledge engineering. Customers and executives have benefitted from his empathy and communication skills with the technically challenged. He has also been deeply involved in personal computing since before Apple was a seed.
Rene learned how to use a personal computer (on her own) in self-defense, over 20 years ago. Since then, she has drawn on her experience of breaking into a private club, to help others (like her) who begin with serious trepidation and without a clue. She has even been invited to lecture as far afield as Tianjin University (oldest university in China), where she was a spectacular hit. Her specialty is one-on-one teaching of clients for whom reading technical documentation and formal classes are intimidating or otherwise inappropriate.
Together, Jim and Rene have turned their attention to the enormous, collective appetite which is growing for the Internet (and its alter ego, the World Wide Web).
